NURSING ASSESSMENT GUIDELINES

Using the Nursing Assessment Guidelines, facility nurses are performing more complete initial assessments before calling, and on-call providers rarely receive more than one call per resident problem.  Using the Nursing Assessment Guidelines, the nurses often identify the cause of resident's problem, before calling the on-call provider. With this written information comes the caveat that nursing judgment should prevail if a clinical situation does not fit a guideline.

We recommend that all on-call providers in your group become familiar with the content of these guidelines. They can be revised to reflect the assessment expectations of your group and the level of expertise amongst the nurses who will be using them.
